LGBT Activists demand to be included in the Power Handover Council

The members of the group “Identity and Right”, created to help LGBT people, made a statement, “We state that the LGBT community should have its Council representatives, so we sent a united application supported by LGBT organizations and initiatives of the country …”

The organization has already named their candidate. It’s Natalia Mankovskaya, the human rights activist involved in LGBT activism for 10 years (8 of them as a rights defender). “Natalia’s experience and knowledge is important for the Council’s functioning, so the community of activists decided to nominate exactly her …”, said the application by the initiative group.

Activists claim the most urgent and important topics for the Power Handover Council to address are discrimination, hate crimes and their lack of investigation, the transitioning process, identification numbers in passports of transgender persons, etc.

Activists said that Mankovskaya “takes responsibility to represent and protect the interests of the entire community. She’ll be included in the functional group of LGBT activists to coordinate actions …”

For now, there is no information on the Power Handover Council reaction to the LGBT community’s application.
